What is it?
A European campaign about road safety and first aid for children and those in charge of their well being.

Who is involved?
A Red Cross initiative of 25 National Societies with financial support from the European Commission, managed on behalf of the Red Cross/ EU Office by German Red Cross
Red Cross activists, staff and volunteers in Europe.
Everybody who wants to join in:
schools, parents, local communities, road safety organisations, children's organisations, private companies.

Taking the lead:
Red Cross National Societies are on board in these 25 countries:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Rumania, United Kingdom

Why?
To save lives of young school children on European roads.
To provide information and raise awareness in schools and in the community
To share knowledge and experience.

Why young school children?
They are victims:
Road crashes are the greatest single threat of death or injury facing children (UNICEF 2001 report on OECD countries)
They are learners:
Young children have the motivation to learn if road safety and first aid education is made attractive. Teaching children how to behave safely on the roads has long-term benefits.
They are future First-Aid providers:
By making young children aware of the dangers of road traffic and their role in protecting and saving lives, basic first aid messages can be passed on.

How does it work?
By mobilizing schools and neighbourhoods.
By attracting local partners.
By influencing the behaviour of young road users.
By introducing children to basic first aid techniques.
By pooling expertise and sharing best practice between all 25 National Societies in the European Union and in candidate countries
By using materials - posters, leaflets, first aid cards, games - in all languages of the campaign partners
Through a wide range of activities at the European, national and local level: road safety days in schools, bicycle exams, distribution of reflectors, first aid initiations

When?
From April 2003 to April 2004
