| Why? |
 |
To
save lives of young school children on European roads. |
 |
To
provide information and raise awareness in schools and in the community |
 |
To
share knowledge and experience. |
| Why
young school children? |
 |
They
are victims:
Road crashes are the greatest single threat of death or injury facing
children (UNICEF 2001 report on OECD countries) |
 |
They
are learners:
Young children have the motivation to learn if road safety and first
aid education is made attractive. Teaching children how to behave
safely on the roads has long-term benefits. |
 |
They
are future First-Aid providers:
By making young children aware of the dangers of road traffic and
their role in protecting and saving lives, basic first aid messages
can be passed on. |
| How
does it work? |
 |
By
mobilizing schools and neighbourhoods. |
 |
By
attracting local partners. |
 |
By
influencing the behaviour of young road users. |
 |
By
introducing children to basic first aid techniques. |
 |
By
pooling expertise and sharing best practice between all 25 National
Societies in the European Union and in candidate countries |
 |
By
using materials - posters, leaflets, first aid cards, games - in
all languages of the campaign partners |
 |
Through
a wide range of activities at the European, national and local level:
road safety days in schools, bicycle exams, distribution of reflectors,
first aid initiations |
